Leading mission-critical infrastructure modernization, data centre migrations, and change management across the Government of Canada's IT backbone.
Shared Services Canada (SSC) is the backbone of the Government of Canada's IT infrastructure — responsible for delivering secure, reliable digital services to over 40 federal departments and agencies. When legacy data centres began reaching end-of-life, SSC needed to consolidate, modernize, and migrate hundreds of servers without disrupting the services that millions of Canadians depend on daily.
The challenge wasn't just technical. It required navigating complex federal governance structures, coordinating across dozens of stakeholder groups, managing change through formal Change Advisory Board (CAB) reviews, and ensuring zero-downtime transitions for production systems that power everything from immigration processing to national security.
I was brought in as a Senior Business Analyst and Project Delivery Lead to drive data centre migration initiatives and infrastructure modernization across the Linux/Unix and VMware directorate. My scope covered the full lifecycle — from business requirements and stakeholder alignment through to testing, cutover, and production validation.
Every infrastructure change in the federal environment requires formal CAB governance review. I led these reviews end-to-end — assessing risk, evaluating operational impact, coordinating scheduling windows, and presenting change proposals to senior leadership. My track record: 100% approval rate across all submitted changes.
I coordinated multi-phase migration projects involving server decommissioning, workload rehosting, and full environment cutover. Each migration required meticulous planning — mapping dependencies, sequencing server moves, scheduling maintenance windows, and executing rollback plans if anything deviated. Zero unplanned outages.
Beyond migrations, I administered and optimized RHEL, CentOS, VMware ESXi, and vSphere environments — handling VM provisioning, resource allocation, performance tuning, and capacity management for production workloads supporting critical government services.
I worked hand-in-hand with middleware teams on application server configurations, deployment coordination, and integration troubleshooting. I also partnered with network, application support, and cloud teams to resolve incidents and maintain service stability across the federal environment.
I championed process improvements across the directorate — identifying manual bottlenecks, designing automation solutions in Bash and Python, and standardizing repeatable infrastructure workflows. These initiatives measurably reduced manual effort and improved operational consistency.
I mentored junior analysts and engineers through one-on-one coaching sessions, helping them develop technical and analytical skills while fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
The Government of Canada's digital services touch millions of lives every day. The infrastructure I help manage and modernize at SSC ensures that immigration systems process applications, tax systems serve Canadians during filing season, and national security systems stay online 24/7. Every server migration, every governance review, every automation script contributes to keeping that promise.
