Orchestrating a full-scale migration from legacy on-premise infrastructure to Microsoft Azure and Nutanix HCI — on time, under budget, and with zero data loss.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) — the country's national housing agency — was running critical infrastructure on aging, on-premise legacy systems. The hardware was reaching end-of-life, maintenance costs were escalating, scalability was limited, and the organization needed to move to the cloud to stay competitive and compliant.
This wasn't a simple lift-and-shift. The migration required re-architecting backup and disaster recovery strategies, deploying entirely new hyper-converged infrastructure, negotiating multi-vendor contracts, and ensuring zero disruption to production systems that directly impact Canadian housing policy and mortgage insurance.
The budget: $2.5 million. The expectation: deliver on time, within 95% of budget, with measurable cost reduction and improved resilience.
I owned the end-to-end delivery of the entire cloud migration program. I prepared project charters, developed integrated delivery plans, orchestrated dependencies across multiple workstreams and delivery squads, and managed SLA escalations for incidents, requests, and initiatives. The result: delivery within 95% of projected budgets and timelines across the full 4.5-year engagement.
I enabled achievement of initiatives within and across working teams through rigorous change management — managing scope, timelines, and financials. I communicated objectives, coordinated milestone check-ins, proactively identified risks, and designed mitigation strategies that prevented issues before they materialized.
I actively engaged with Product Owners, Service Owners, domain leads, executive leaders, and external partners to facilitate impactful decisions, drive coordination and alignment across stakeholders, and prioritize initiatives across the cloud transformation portfolio.
Led the enterprise-wide migration from on-premise legacy environments to Microsoft Azure, achieving a 23% reduction in infrastructure costs while dramatically improving scalability, availability, and disaster recovery capabilities.
Spearheaded the design and deployment of Nutanix HCI solutions — from capacity planning and resource sizing through to production rollout. Managed vendor engagements with Nutanix, VMware, and Dell EMC, negotiating contracts and aligning SLAs across multiple technology partners. This eliminated legacy hardware dependencies and modernized the client's entire data centre footprint.
This was one of the most complex workstreams in the program. I managed the complete overhaul of enterprise backup and storage using Commvault, including:
Led end-to-end data migration planning, validation, and execution — ensuring data integrity, availability, and regulatory compliance throughout every transformation phase. Built Python scripts to automate data processing and validation, ensuring accuracy and consistency at scale.
Designed and implemented storage capacity planning and snapshot strategy optimization across the entire backup infrastructure, ensuring data protection, resiliency, and recovery objectives were met across all migration phases.
💡 Over 4.5 years, I managed this program through technology shifts, vendor changes, scope expansions, and a global pandemic — and still delivered within 95% of the original budget.
Working with a federal Crown corporation like CMHC meant operating under strict governance frameworks. I collaborated with security, infrastructure, application, and compliance teams to ensure adherence to enterprise policies and risk controls at every stage. I produced executive-level documentation including:
A $2.5 million program. 4.5 years. Enterprise-scale cloud migration across Azure, Nutanix, VMware, and Commvault. 23% cost reduction. 23% security risk reduction. Zero data loss. Delivered within 95% of budget. This is the kind of program that defines a career — and I delivered it.
